Colonial School District’s elementary school leaders believe that now is the time to talk with our kids about drugs and alcohol. Please join us, and together we will talk about:
• The reality of when and how kids are introduced to substances.
• How to have a conversation with children about loved ones who might be struggling with substance use.
• What to do if you are concerned that your child may be experimenting.

More young people these days believe, “weed is like salad.” This funny, but sadly inaccurate statement is consistent with data showing that young people have a lower perception of risk when it comes to regular marijuana use (Monitoring the Future Survey, 2016).
This perception is only strengthened by the legalization of marijuana in several states, the proliferation of marijuana as “medicine,” and the promotion of marijuana through pop culture. Given this situation, what chance does any adult have to convince a teenager that, “weed is definitely not salad”?
This program is intended for parents, educators and other adults who care about
marijuana’s impact on young people. Clinical neuropsychologist and professional youth speaker, Dr. Matt Bellace will provide us with insights into how to have an effective conversation with youth on this important topic.
