  2. Marijuana, the Developing Brain, and Behavior - Collegeville

February 27, 2019, 6:30 PM @ Perkiomen Valley High School

More young people these days believe, “weed is like salad.” This funny, but sadly inaccurate statement is consistent with data showing that young people have a lower perception of risk when it comes to regular marijuana use (Monitoring the Future Survey, 2016). This perception is only strengthened by the legalization of marijuana in several states, the proliferation of marijuana as “medicine,” and the promotion of marijuana through pop culture. Given this situation, what chance does any adult have to convince a teenager that, “weed is definitely not salad”? This program is intended for parents, educators and other adults who care about marijuana’s impact on young people. Clinical neuropsychologist and professional youth speaker, Dr. Matt Bellace will provide us with insights into how to have an effective conversation with youth on this important topic.

February 19, 2019, 6:00 PM @ Montgomery County Community College - Pottstown Campus

THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT is initiating planning for the 2019 Annual Action Plan as part of its application for funding to the U.S. Department of HUD. Three public hearings will be conducted to provide County residents with information on the application process for the 2019 Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG), the Emergency Solutions Grant Program (ESG), and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program. This is an opportunity for individuals and organizations to provide feedback to the County on the needs of low and moderate income residents, to learn about the programs and to be involved in determining how the County will use the approximately $3.5 million in allocations, from HUD to improve our community. The County encourages participation of all its residents, especially the involvement of very low income residents, minorities and non-English speaking persons and persons with mobility, visual or hearing impairments.
