County Finishes Reconstruction of Ludwig Road Bridge in New Hanover Township

Bridge 207

Montgomery County’s Roads and Bridges team announced today that reconstruction is complete on Bridge 207 located on Ludwig Road over Schlegel Creek in New Hanover Township. During the past several months, work has been on-going in accordance with approved engineering design plans.

Funded through the County’s five dollar Motor Vehicle Registration Fee, bridge reconstruction was completed on time and on budget. Bridge 207 now has a new superstructure composed of a single span composite pre-stressed concrete spread box Beam Bridge.

The new bridge is now wider, spanning forty one feet across. The new structure width provides for two 10 feet wide lanes and two shoulders measuring two and a half feet wide. The bridge also has new vertical wall barriers with architectural treatment on both faces.

The existing substructure was also rehabilitated. Upgrades include asphalt paving, guiderail installation, line painting, and reinforcement of the shoulders.

Future finishing work that cannot be completed due to freezing conditions will be undertaken in 2021. The final touches listed below will be completed without detours or closing of the bridge:

  1. Reinstallation of split rail fence
  2. Reinstallation of electrified livestock fence
  3. Staining of the railing’s architectural surface treatment
  4. Application of penetrating sealer on bridge railing
  5. Application of epoxy resin on newly placed abutments and side walls

The County thanks its Roads and Bridges team, Whitney Bailey, Cox & Magnani, McCormick Taylor and McTish, Kunkle & Associates for a job well done.

The Montgomery County Motor Vehicle Registration Fee provides a dedicated source of funding to continue improving the County’s roads, bridges, and intersections. Since 2012, the County has completed 29 bridge projects. In 2021, 20 active bridge projects will be in design, three underway in construction, in addition to ten anticipated to begin construction.
