Montgomery County's voting equipment accepts ballots that are marked with a Sharpie. Sharpie pens are recommended by our voting machine vendor and have been used in past 4 elections. Our ballots are specifically formatted so that "bleeding" is not a concern. The ballot scanners will sound an alarm and eject any ballot that cannot be read. If the scanner at your polling location accepted your ballot, then your vote was cast.

The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency has also released a statement regarding the use of Sharpies on Election materials. Click here to read their statement.
