Montgomery County Recorder of DeedsAnnounces Upcoming Mobile Veterans’ Discount Identification Events
Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg hasannounced six Mobile Veterans’ Discount Identification events to be heldthroughout Montgomery County this spring.
“I am thrilled to be able to continue to take this programon the road to serve Montgomery County veterans,” Sorg said. Earlier in April, the Recorder of Deeds participated in three events including the MilitaryRetirees Appreciation Day in Horsham, the Healthy Lifestyles Expo in Pottstown, and the International Spring Festival in Lansdale.
The Veterans’ Discount ID Program has been in effect since 2012.Sorg explained that the program is successful due to positive partnerships withelected officials, veterans’ organizations and the community. Since theinception of the program, approximately 7600 veterans have recorded theirDD-214 discharge papers and received a Veterans’ Discount identification cardto use at over 500 participating merchants throughout Montgomery County. However,Sorg indicated that the discount card is not the only benefit of recordingdischarge papers with the Recorder of Deeds.
"The DD214 is one of themost important document a veteran holds,” Sorg said, “and recording it at myoffice allows veterans and their families instant access to it should the needarise."
It can take anywhere from four to six weeks to request a DD-214 fromthe National Archives. By recording it at the Recorder of Deeds office inNorristown, or at a Mobile Veteran Discount Identification event in MontgomeryCounty, veterans can safeguard their discharge papers. Veterans, theirimmediate family, and representatives from county or federal veterans’ affairscan access the document in a timely manner, which can be crucial when the timecomes to obtain benefits from the Veterans’ Administration.
Veterans need to bring their DD214 (military discharge) and a photoidentification (such as a driver’s license) to a mobile event to record theirpaperwork, and in minutes they will receive an identification card.
