The Course in Community Planning will be taught in three consecutive Thursday sessions on April 12, 19, 26. Designed for both new and experienced participants, the course covers the fundamental information that municipal officials and planning commission members need to carry out their responsibilities and do an effective job. It addresses the role of planning in local government and how planning commissions relate to the governing body, zoning hearing board, and zoning officer.
Course topics include basic knowledge of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC), comprehensive planning, plan implementation (including zoning, subdivision, and land development regulation), official mapping, and how effective planning commissions approach their responsibilities. The course, developed by the Pennsylvania Municipal Planning Education Institute (PMPEI), is taught by certified instructors. Registration is limited to 25 persons, and pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $110 per person. *Municipalities with a current planning assistance contract with MCPC are eligible for a discounted rate of $90.
Available Credits
PMPEI is an approved provider of continuing education credits for the following: registered landscape architects, attorneys (PA Continuing Legal Education Board), engineers, land surveyors, professional geologists, and uniform construction code officials. Additional fees apply for credits.
