2017 Annual Summary

2017 Annual Summary Cover

MCPC has published the 2017 Annual Summary of Subdivision, Land Development, and Zoning Activity. The summary, which provides information for each municipality, looks at the number of residential and nonresidential proposals submitted to MCPC for review, the acreage of the submissions, and zoning activity. The Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC), Act 247, requires all subdivision and land development proposals to be submitted to the county planning commission for review prior to municipal action. The county review is advisory only and final approval for any proposal is made by the municipality.

In 2017, we received 455 submissions, an increase from 2016 and just above the five year average of 454. The amount of acreage proposed for development in 2017 was 109 acres more than the previous year. Residential land development proposals decreased from 2016 but are still significantly higher than previous years. Proposed nonresidential square footage increased in 2017, with the industrial sector surprisingly experiencing the highest square footage proposed. We received 127 proposed amendments to either the zoning code or zoning map of local municipalities. Click here for monthly reports on proposals as well as previous annual summaries.
