[ARCHIVED] April 9, 2012

The Montgomery County Commissioners joined together with numerous other county officials to recognize and proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Montgomery County. In a child abuse awareness and prevention effort, county officials and community representatives held pinwheels from Prevent Child Abuse PA in a visual display for child abuse prevention. “Each pinwheel represents a child abuse investigation in our county,” stated Children and Youth Director Laurie O’Connor. Commissioner Chairman Joshua D. Shapiro and District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman asked that all citizens take an active role in protecting children in our community. Also present at today’s child abuse awareness event were Commissioner Leslie S. Richards, Juvenile Court Judge Wendy Demchick-Alloy, Sheriff Eileen Behr, and Mission Kids Director Abbie Newman who were also encouraging community support and agency collaboration in the fight against child abuse and neglect. To report concerns of child abuse and neglect, call ChildLine at 800-932-0313.
