True Treats Historic Candy Tasting and Lecture

Saturday, February 9, 2019

Dive into the history of candy with Susan Benjamin, founder and owner of True Treats Historic Candy located in Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia, to learn about some of the favorite sweets of the 18th century. This exciting lecture will begin at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 9th, at Pottsgrove Manor. Our colonial ancestors loved their sweet treats just like we do today, but their candies were slightly different from our modern choices. Candied ginger and flower petals alongside classics like Turkish Delight were luxurious treats in the 18th century. Chocolate was enjoyed as a rich and indulgent hot beverage and sugar was an expensive addition to any recipe. Discover how these treats were made and how they changed over time into some of the most iconic candies known today. Pre-register to taste some of these special historic candies after the lecture to truly taste history.
