Requirements for Being a resource Parent/foster Home
Becoming a foster/resource parent is easier than you think. Basic resource parent requirements:
- Be willing to participate in pre-service resource parent training
- Be at least 21 years old
- Have a home or apartment that meets basic standards as set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS)
- Provide a positive physical and emotional environment for children
- Can be:
- Married or single
- Working parents or stay-at-home parents

Resource parents are urgently needed for sibling groups, teens, and minority children. In order to become approved as a resource parent, you must attend one (1) orientation class and
all pre-service resource parent training classes in a session.
