Schuylkill River Passenger Rail

The restoration of passenger rail between Reading and Philadelphia, passing through Pottstown and Norristown, among other potential stops, has been a goal in Montgomery County’s comprehensive plan and other county, regional, and state plans. Montgomery, Berks, and Chester Counties have partnered to explore this initiative and pursue opportunities to advance it through a Tri-County Passenger Rail Committee. All three counties are now proposing to form a joint authority, the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority (SRPRA), to facilitate more detailed activity toward this goal, including the pursuit of funding opportunities and partnering with rail operators, state, and federal transportation agencies.

The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners voted to advertise a public hearing for the incorporation of the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority at its March 3, 2022 Board of Commissioners meeting. The public hearing will take place at 2:00 p.m. on April 20, 2022 in the Commissioners Board Meeting Room on the 8th floor of One Montgomery Plaza, located at 425 Swede Street in Norristown, Pennsylvania.
