Grab your boots and binoculars and join us for a birding road trip around Green Lane Park. We will carpool to 3 different birding hotspots within the park. Find out why Green Lane is one of the top birding destinations in eastern Pennsylvania. The program is free of charge, but pre-registration is required. Call (215) 234-4528 to reserve your space. Holiday Craft Workshops

Participants can choose from a variety of craft projects under the guidance of our skilled volunteers. Choose from “Winsome Woodland Critters,” a pine cone wreath, “Holiday Wall Hanging," a holiday centerpiece, “kissing balls,” and more. All three workshops are for ages 12 to adult, program fee of $10 per workshop per person. Masks are required for these indoor programs. Spaces are limited, call (215) 234-4528 to reserve your spot. Winter Tree ID Made Easy

 Don’t know winter trees without their leaves? Join us on a guided walk to learn tips and tricks for winter tree identification. We will use bark, twigs, buds, and fruit as clues to tree ID.  Program is free and suitable for ages 9 to adult.  Meet outside Park Office (2144 Snyder Road, Green Lane, PA 18054).


WINTER MEAL COOKED ON A WOOD STOVE

 See a demonstration of cooking soup, bread, meat and desert on a wood-fired cast iron cook stove. The mansion will be open for guided tours. Valentine Workshop for Kids

Many of the park’s wild inhabitants are seldom seen, but very much active in winter. Join us in a search for the “signs and signatures” left behind by some of our wild creatures.   Suitable for ages 8 to adult.  The program is free, but pre-registration is required.  The spring migration of ducks, geese and swans will be underway at this time. Join us in a search for early migrants and resident birds at the Green Lane Park Important Bird Area. You will quickly learn why the park is one of Eastern Pennsylvania’s premier birding sites! Suitable for ages 12 to adult. Bring binoculars and meet at Tennis Court parking lot. Maple Sugar Magic

Join us as we unlock the magic of Maple Sugaring time, now in our 33rd year at Green Lane Park. We will demonstrate tree-tapping and sap gathering, the boiling of sap to make syrup, and learn about the discovery of maple sugar dating back to the 1500’s. Pure Pennsylvania maple syrup, candy and cream will be available for sale. The program is free, and suitable for all ages. Meet at Hill Road Day Use Area (2821 Hill Road, Green Lane, PA 18054). 

 

The Ghosts of Immigrants Past

Hear historian Susan McAninley bring to life the story of immigration in Philadelphia during the years 1873 to 1915. Over 1 million immigrants arrived in Philadelphia at Pier 53. Timberdoodle Time

This is the time to search for the evening courtship antics of the American Woodcock. With such fanciful names as “Labrador Twister”, “Timberdoodle” and “Bog-sucker”, it is clear that this bird has a colorful life history. Bring a flashlight and wear sturdy boots (trail may be muddy in places). Suitable for ages 9 to adult. Program is free, but pre-registration is required. (215) 234-4528. COLOR YOUR EGGS - NATURALLY

Looking for an alternative to chemical food coloring tablets from the store?  Join us to color your Easter eggs like our grandparents did- using natural materials!  Bring a dozen hard-boiled eggs and sample colors from Mother Nature’s palette. Rain Barrel Workshop hosted by the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy

Looking for an easy way to reduce storm water pollution on your property?  Register for the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy's Rain Barrel Workshop on April 21st at 6:30 pm hosted at the Deep Creek Stone Lodge (2115 Snyder Road, Green Lane, PA 18054).  All of the necessary supplies for building a rain barrel will be provided and a Conservancy staff member will lead you through the steps of putting your rain barrel together.  Participants will leave with a completed rain barrel that is ready to be installed on their property! “Spring Beauties” are just one of many species of wildflowers we will encounter in our local woods in April. Join us to learn identification tips, and a few fun facts and folklore about some of the flowers.  This is also a great opportunity for polishing your photography skills. Gallery Talk: The 3-D History of Stereographs & Other Victorian Optical Illusions

Hear an in-depth talk about the history of stereographs. Learn how these devices were the longest running types of photography spanning from daguerreotypes to modern day. Visitors will be able to view many of the stereographs in 3-D, using a lorgnette, which will be provided for use in the galleries. Limited space available, register early. Earlybird Walk

This is prime time to search for late spring migrants including warblers, vireos, flycatchers and more.  Join us for a roughly 2 mile stroll over level terrain, as we search for migrant and resident birds. 1900’s History Center - A Visit to the General Store

Visit the General Store where kids can discover how important these businesses were in a community like Schwenksville. Find out what was sold in these stores and what other services they provided. Take on the role of a family and shop for a week’s worth of food. Masks required. Make a reservation to tour the mansion.  All ages; free.

 

Lunar Eclipse Hike

Join a park ranger for a nighttime hike as we walk to an elevated vantage point to view the total lunar eclipse.  During this approximately 1.25 mile hike, we will experience an elevation change of 160 feet, while sticking to established trails.  Bring a flashlight, binoculars, and blanket or lightweight chair.  This program is free, but pre-registration is required.  Call 215-234-4528 to reserve your spot.  Meet at the tennis courts.  Free; Ages 4 to adult.

Join us for a knee-deep and up-close look at life in the Perkiomen Creek.  Using nets, pans and magnifiers, we will examine the diverse creatures that make their home in moving waters.
