The Aging Waiver is a program administered in Montgomery County through the Office of Aging and Adult Services. This program provides extensive home and community based long term care services to individuals as an alternative to nursing home placement. It is referred to as a waiver program because services are funded through a special waiver of certain Medicaid restrictions, allowing payments typically used for nursing home care to be used for home care services instead.
Only older residents of Montgomery County who can be cared for SAFELY within a community setting are eligible to participate in this program. A variety of in-home services can be provided through the Aging Waiver Program to meet an individual’s needs. Our staff will work with each participant and their families to assess the participant’s needs, develop a plan of care, and allow the participant to choose who may provide the care within the home.
A participant will be eligible for the Aging Waiver if the following requirements are met:
60 years of age or older
Meet Medicaid financial requirements OR have a total monthly income of no more $2,205
No more than $8,000 in liquid assets
Require the level of care of a nursing home
Choose community-based services rather than a nursing home
Once assessed and determined to be functionally eligible for the program, you will also be required to provide information regarding your income and assets. Your financial eligibility MUST be determined by the County Assistance Office prior to your involvement in the program.
