Living With White-tails

Come out and explore the world of the White-tailed Deer, Pennsylvania’s official state animal. After a brief indoor program on the life history of deer, we will venture out to look for deer “signs and signatures”. Appropriate footwear recommended, conditions may be snowy and/or muddy. Pre-registration required; meet at Deep Creek Stone Pavilion. Ages: 9 & up: free

The annual Triple Dam Trail Run 10K is Saturday, February 16th, 2019 @ 9AM.

 Race parking at the Deep Creek area of Green Lane Park (2144 Snyder Road, Green Lane, PA 18054) .

Registration through Pretzel City Sports: www.pretzelcitysports.com.

Entry $35 if post marked by January 24. 
After this date until race date, $40.

Waterfowl Watch

“Spring” Migration often begins at this time, don’t miss the show! Join us for a look at early migrant ducks, geese and swans, wintering raptors, and more. We will visit 3 birding hots pots in the Green Lane Park Important Bird Area. Pre-registration is required. Bring binoculars if you have them, and meet at tennis court parking lot. Ages: 9 & up; free

Maple Sugar Magic

Bring the entire family to the park as we celebrate the centuries old tradition of the maple harvest. We will demonstrate tree tapping, boiling sap at our evaporator, and taste-testing pure maple products. We will also have pure Pennsylvania maple syrup, cream and candy for sale. Come out and celebrate our 31st year of sugaring in the park!  Meet at Hill Road Day Use Area (2198 Hill Road, Green Lane, PA 18054).  All ages; free.

Timber-doodle Time

Come out to the park just before dark to witness the amazing courtship flight of the American Woodcock in a new program venue.  With such fanciful names as “Labrador Twister” and “Bogsucker,” this bird has fascinated people for many generations.  Bring a flashlight and meet at Red Trail parking lot on Knight Road. Wear appropriate footwear, as ground may be muddy.     Ages: 9 & up; free.

Color your Eggs – Naturally

Looking for an alternative to chemical food coloring tablets from the grocery store?  Join us in a creative adventure as we color Easter eggs like your grandparents did –using natural materials!  Bring a dozen hard-boiled eggs and sample colors from Mother Nature’s palette.  Spaces are limited, pre-registration is required!  Meet at Deep Creek Stone Pavilion.

Ages: 5 to adult; materials fee of $5 per dozen eggs.

In Search of Spring Beauties

Come out to the park as we search the forest floor for spring wildflowers. The park is home to a diverse array of native flowers, with colorful names and equally colorful histories that date back centuries. Great photo opportunities can be had on this walk. Pre-registration is required; meet outside Park Office (2144 Snyder Road, Green Lane PA 18054).  Ages: 9 to adult; free.

DeBella Dog Walk

Classic Rock 102.9 MGK presents the John DeBella Dog Walk, the largest canine carnival in the area.  You and your four-legged friend get to spend some quality time together in this picturesque park and enjoy doggie demos, interactive games and get expert advice from vets and trainers. There will also be local food trucks.  The 2019 DeBella Dog Walk is a FREE, outdoor gathering for people and their dogs, those looking to adopt, and those seeking info about particular breeds.  Its aim is to teach people how to be better pet owners and to educate the public about the work that non-profit rescue groups and shelters do.  You can also support and learn from the 25+ shelters and rescue groups onsite. Located at the GLP Amphitheater (2298 Green Lane Road, Green Lane PA 18054).  All ages; free

Earlybird Walk

Spring migration for warblers, vireos, and many other late spring arrivals should be in full swing. Join us for a closer look at the migrant and resident birds of the park. The Upper Perkiomen Valley – a Journey

Through the Past

Join special guest historian and speaker Tom Henry for this special program on the history of the valley before Green Lane Reservoir was created.  Back by popular demand, Tom’s amazing power point program features images of the homes and farmsteads that once flourished here.  Spaces are very limited, pre-registration is required. Meet at Stone Pavilion in Green Lane Park (2115 Snyder Road, Green  Lane, PA 18054).  Adults only; free.

Summer Concert Series: Southern Edge Band

Join us for an evening of music in the park.  Come out to Green Lane Park’s free summer concert featuring the Southern Edge Band!  Located in the park’s amphitheater, this free event promises to provide a healthy dose of southern and country rock, complete with renditions of classic artists such as Johnny Cash and even modern stars like Blake Shelton.  Enjoy this warm summer night in a beautiful park with some foot-stompin’ good music!  Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. All ages; free.

Creek Critters

Join us as we investigate aquatic life in the waters of Perkiomen Creek.  Using nets, pans and magnifiers, we’ll examine the many highly adapted insects, crayfish, and more. Wear shorts and old sneakers (no open-toed shoes, please), we will be getting wet. Afterward, all creatures will be returned safely to their homes.  Pre-registration is required. Program will meet at Fly-fishing area on Church Road. (1.2 miles east of jct. Church and Kutztown Roads)  All ages; free.

Lightning in a Jar – Fireflies!

Join us for our annual search for the fascinating firefly. We all loved to catch them as kids, but did you know that Fireflies are the official State Insect of Pennsylvania? Bring the kids and grandkids for this special night-time adventure. Bring a non-breakable plastic container or jar (we have some loaners as well), and meet at tennis court parking lot (2298 Green Lane Road, Green Lane, PA 18054).  All creatures will be released unharmed at end of program.  All ages; free.

Summer Concert Series: Zydeco-a-Go-Go

Join us for an evening of music in the park. Come out to Green Lane Park’s free summer concert featuring Zydeco-a-Go-Go! Their music is a mix of Louisiana Cajun, Zydeco and vintage New Orleans Rock & Roll. Their upbeat, happy sound appeals to all ages, toddlers through teens, mom and dad and grandparents, everybody. They’ve got that lively rhythm that makes you smile, makes you tap your feet, some people can’t help it, got to get up and dance! Their motto is: “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler!” or “Let The Good Times Roll!” Please bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.  All ages; free.
