2017–2018 Influenza Vaccine Recommendations

  • The CDC recommends a yearly flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older by the end of October, if possible.
  • The composition of the 2017–2018 trivalent vaccine includes A/Michigan/45/2015 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus, A/Hong Kong/4801/2014 (H3N2)-like virus, and B/Brisbane/60/2008-like (B Victoria lineage). Quadrivalent vaccines will contain the same viruses, as well as B/Phuket/3073/2013-like (B Yamagata lineage) virus.
  • The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has extended the recommendation that the FluMist nasal spray not be used into the 2017–2018 season. The ACIP anticipates receiving additional data on FluMist in October 2017.
