What to Expect at Program Events
  • Electronics collection events will be held at different locations throughout the county on specified days between April and October. 
  • All collection events will accept only electronics.
  • All collection events will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • On event days, directional signs and volunteers will help the public navigate to the correct entrance of the event and into line.
  • At a typical event, the wait time should be no longer than 20 minutes.

Optional Surveys
As you approach the staging area, Montgomery County employees and community service workers may ask you a few survey questions regarding the days event. You are not required to take the survey however, these surveys help the county determine how to better advertise, where to hold future events and allow the opportunity for feedback.

Removing Items from Your Car
Once you are finished with the survey takers, you will be directed towards the staging area. At this time, contracted employees will instruct you to stay in your car and unlock any doors so that access to the material is as easy as possible.

Contracted employees will then proceed to remove items from your car as carefully and quickly as possible. Once all items are removed you will be guided towards the exit.

Available to Residents Only
This program is a community service to the residents of Montgomery County and the four Southeastern Pennsylvania County Region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Philadelphia counties) only and is not open to businesses, institutions, or industry.

About the Program
The counties of Bucks, Delaware, Chester, Montgomery and the City of Philadelphia continue to partner together to host approximately 30  household hazardous waste (HHW) and electronics collection events every year. 

The regional partnership allows residents of each county the opportunity to attend any of the events hosted in the region. It also allows the five-county region to acquire the best possible price per pound, which in turn, saves valuable taxpayer dollars. In 2010, this regional partnership collected close to 3 million pounds of HHW and electronics of which, Montgomery County accounted for about 1 million of that total alone.

What happens to the material collected for recycling?
The equipment you bring to County electronic waste collection events is sent to a recycling facility to be dismantled and shredded so that the primary materials - plastics, metals, and glass - can be sent directly to smelters for reuse as input in the production of new products.

Our electronics recycler is certified to the highest industry standards so that you can be assured that nothing leaves their facilities as a whole unit that might contaminate a landfill or be unlawfully dismantled in a foreign country. All hard drives left in your equipment are shredded to ensure data security.
