PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:                                                                                                 APRIL 25, 2008

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Whitemarsh Township Police Chief Eileen Behr announce the results of an investigation into a traffic accident that occurred on the morning of Thursday, April 17, 2008.  At 8:13 am Officers from the Whitemarsh Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash on Stenton Avenue between Joshua Road and Flowertown Road.  Upon arrival they found that a two-vehicle crash had taken place.  The crash involved a dump truck and a Honda Sedan operated by Emily J. Dancona of Philadelphia.  Ms. Dancona died as a result of injures received in the crash.

A joint investigation of the crash was conducted by the Whitemarsh Township Police Department and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. Through the investigation it was determined that Ms. Dancona had been proceeding westbound on Stenton Avenue in the eastbound lane of travel.  The dump truck driver had been proceeding eastbound in the eastbound lane of Stenton Avenue.  The driver observed Ms. Dancona approaching him in his lane of travel and attempted to avoid her by steering left to enter the westbound lane. Ms. Dancona attempted to enter back into the westbound lane of travel when the two vehicles collided.  Investigators determined the cause of the crash was Ms. Dancona operating her vehicle in the wrong lane of travel.

A toxicological examination revealed that the dump truck driver had no indications that he was under the influence of any controlled substances or alcohol at the time of the crash.  Ms. Dancona toxicology results are still pending.

Based upon facts uncovered in the investigation into this traffic accident no criminal charges will be filed.
