Anh Tuan Le
Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman and Towamencin Township Police Chief Paul T. Dickinson announce the arrest of Anh Tuan Le and three juveniles for charges relating to their involvement repeated thefts of numerous lap top computers from the North Penn High School. Anh Tuan Le, age 18, of Valley Forge Road Lansdale is charged with Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, Criminal Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Trespass, Theft by Unlawful Taking, and Receiving Stolen Property.
Since November 2007, the Towamencin Police Department and the North Penn High School Security Department conducted a joint investigation into the thefts of the lap top computers as well as a computer projector from North Penn High School. From mid-November of 2007 until April 4, 2008, a total of 40 lap top computers were reported stolen from the high school. The approximate value for all 40 computers and the projector reported stolen is $53,200.00.
On Monday April 7, 2008, North Penn High School officials discovered that an additional 8 lap top computers had been stolen from the high school. Security and school officials began an investigation into this incident and determined that these lap tops were secured and locked inside a classroom and were last known to be secured on Friday, April 4, 2008. After reviewing surveillance video from numerous security cameras both inside and outside of the school, two 15 year old juveniles were observed and identified on video in the area of the classroom. They were not authorized to have been in that area on this date. School officials contacted the suspected juveniles and discovered that one of the juveniles had a stolen lap top in his back pack. The juveniles were arrested by Towamencin Police.
Investigation revealed that the juveniles were at North Penn High School to attend an R.O.T.C. dance and while in the school, they allegedly stole the eight lap tops and placed them in a duffel bag. This duffel bag was then placed in a trash can outside of the school in the cafeteria courtyard area. One of the juveniles called an adult suspect, later identified as Ahn T. Le age 18, to pick him up and the juvenile and the adult loaded the computers from the trash can into the car and both left the school property.
The investigation lead police to a location in the unit block of West Broad Street Souderton Borough. Ahn Le was allegedly storing 30 of the stolen lap top computers in a basement area at that location. A total of 30 lap top computers were recovered by Towamencin Police Detectives from the basement of the West Broad St. building in Souderton Borough. All 30 of the recovered computers were confirmed by their serial numbers to have been stolen property belonging to the North Penn School District. The value of the recovered computers is $39,100.
Information from the investigation lead Towamencin Detectives to the identity of another juvenile, a 16 year old Montgomery Township male, who allegedly received one of the stolen computers from the other juveniles knowing that it had been stolen. He was also charged by Towamencin Township Police
Le was arraigned on April 14, 2008 by Magisterial District Judge Harold Borek. Bail was set at $10,000.00 unsecured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 5, 2008 at 11 am. Assistant District Attorney Juliet Faulkner, from the Major Crimes Unit, is assigned to prosecute the case.
