          District Attorney Bruce L. Castor, Jr. announced today that the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has maintained a 98% conviction rate for the first half of 2007. The prosecutor released this news at the District Attorney’s Office Semi-Annual staff meeting earlier today.

          Other significant accomplishments during the first half of 2007 include:

 

(1)   The Bad Check Restitution Program has recovered $500,000.00 for victims of bad check crimes since its inception in 2004;

 

(2)   The DA’s Office disposed of 4634 cases in the first half of 2007 putting it on course to shatter the mark set in 2006 for the most dispositions in a year ever.

 

(3)   The DA’s Office achieved a trial conviction rate of 87%;

 

(4)   Community Service hours performed have increased dramatically this year with numbers at the mid-year point that are close to the totals for the entire year in 2006 due to a reorganization of this unit of the office under the direction of former CLEAN Lieutenant Mark Bernstiel.

 

          (5) Three recorded murders for the first half of 2007 is an  historically low total.  The fewest number of murders recorded  in the county in a single year in DA Castor's memory is 7.
