Montgomery County Drug Task Force Municipalities
|
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office oversees the Montgomery County Municipal Drug Task Force. The county has fifty-three (53) municipalities and a population in excess of 700,000. The Narcotics Enforcement Team of the District Attorney’s Office was established in 1982. The unit consists of 11 full time detectives and is the largest investigative unit in the county, dedicated solely to drug enforcement. In addition to
the Narcotics Enforcement Team, the District Attorney’s Office adopted
the Drug Task Force in 2000 with the assistance of funding secured from
the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. The Municipal Drug Task
Force originally consisted of 165 sworn police officers, who
participated in narcotics investigations. Since then, the Task Force
has evolved to approximately 450 officers. The Drug Task
Force also provides aggressive drug patrols designed to combat open-air
drug dealers and violent street crimes related to drug dealing.
