 Worcester Township was established in 1733, and was settled primarily by Mennonites who came from Holland. The township was named after a prominent city and county in England. Worcester Township is the most centrally located township in Montgomery County, with the village of Center Point being the geographic center of the county. In its early days, the township had a reputation for superior farming and its products were sent to markets all over the region. Grist and sawmills were the area’s first major industries. Many of the historic buildings have been preserved to give tribute to the township’s rich history. Today, the township is experiencing a modest growth in its residential population while maintaining some viable farming and open spaces. Villages within the township include Cedars, Center Point and Fairview Village.
PUBLIC SERVICES:Center Point and the portion of the township north along Valley Forge Road is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. Police protection is provided by the Pennsylvania State Police. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.
RECREATION:Facilities include one park, a public golf course, and athletic fields that belong to Methacton School District. Little League programs are run by a private organization. For more information on what is available, please call 610-584-1410.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:No SEPTA bus or rail lines serve the township.
SHOPPING:No substantial community shopping centers are located in the township. However, some consumer services and products can be found in the Fairview Village section of the township. The nearest major shopping malls are the Montgomery Mall and the Plymouth Meeting Mall.
