![]() Whitemarsh Township was established in 1704 and is one of the oldest townships in the county. The area was settled primarily by English and Welsh immigrants. By the end of the nineteenth century, many wealthy Philadelphia families established beautiful summer homes in Whitemarsh. The decades following the Second World War saw a large number of people move out of Philadelphia and settle in the township. Many old historic structures, such as churches and farm houses, are still standing today as reminders of the townships long, rich history. The township can be described as an area of well-kept neighborhoods, tree-lined streets, open spaces, parks, and scenic lanes. Communities within the township include Broad Axe, Lafayette Hill, Spring Mill, Miquon and Barren Hill. In addition, some residents and businesses may have a Conshohocken mailing address, but are still located in the township.
