The section of Montgomery County known as Upper Pottsgrove was originally settled by English and German immigrants. The township was established in 1889 when Pottsgrove Township was divided into two municipalities. Over the years, Upper Pottsgrove grew slowly and was primarily agricultural. Today, the township is poised for continued residential and commercial development which will be concentrated along the Route 100 corridor. It is Route 100 that acts as the lifeline between Pottstown and Boyertown Borough in Berks County. Overall, this area of the county is considered a component of the “Greater Pottstown” area. Some residents and businesses, while being located in the township, will have a Pottstown mailing address.

PUBLIC SERVICES:

Portions of the township are served by public water and sewer facilities. A full-time police force serves the community. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is arranged by private contractors.

RECREATION:

The township works in conjunction with the Pottsgrove Recreation Board and the Pottsgrove School District. Little League programs are run by a private organization. For more information on what is available, please call 610-323-8675.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:

No SEPTA bus or rail service is found in the township. However, SEPTA bus service can be accessed in Pottstown.

SHOPPING:

A new community shopping center is located near the border of Pottstown Borough. The nearest major shopping mall is the Coventry Mall in nearby Chester County.
