The borough was incorporated on September 6, 1875, and the territory was taken solely from Upper Hanover Township. The extensions of the Reading Railroad and the construction of small homes and support buildings helped give the economic impetus for the borough’s formation. The borough has little land remaining for development. However, its older but well-maintained housing stock provides home ownership for many. East Greenville retains its historical and small town flavor. Today, many people live in the borough but are employed in other areas of the Upper Perkiomen Valley. Some East Greenville mailing addresses may actually be located in Upper Hanover Township.

PUBLIC SERVICES:

The entire borough is serviced by public water and sewer facilities. Full-time police protection is provided by the Upper Perkiomen Police District which serves the contiguous boroughs of East Greenville and Pennsburg. Fire protection is provided by volunteer companies. Residential trash disposal is provided by private haulers who are contracted by the township. The township uses a per bag system.

RECREATION:

Borough facilities include a public park. The Rotary Club runs basketball and tennis programs. No Little League programs are run in the borough. Interested persons should contact surrounding communities. For more information on what is available, please call 215-679-5194.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION:

No SEPTA bus or rail lines serve the borough.

SHOPPING:

Main street shopping consists of small stores and businesses. Residents enjoy easy access to a community shopping center in neighboring Red Hill and Pennsburg Boroughs. The nearest major shopping area is Quakertown in Bucks County.
