Chief County Detective Samuel J. Gallen has led the Montgomery County Detective Bureau since 2014, overseeing a team of detectives, investigators and specialized support and technical staff. The Chief has devoted his entire professional career to law enforcement and public safety joining the Montgomery County Detective Bureau in 2002, serving as a detective assigned to the Homicide Unit where he participated in more than 100 homicide investigations. Prior to joining the County Detective Bureau, Gallen served with the Hatboro (Pa.) Police Department for 22 years.He began his law enforcement career with Hatboro as a Patrol Officer, served as a Patrol Sergeant and then Detective Sergeant and was subsequently promoted to Chief of Police in 1999. During his municipal police career, Gallen served as a member and a Commander of the Moreland Area Emergency Response (SWAT) Team. Chief Detective Gallen was cross-sworn as a special County Detective in Bucks and Montgomery Counties and assigned to the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team. Gallen is a graduate of the Pennsylvania State Police Municipal Police Academy, Bucks County Community College and Delaware Valley College.He also is a graduate of the 189th Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. Chief Gallen is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the FBI National Academy Associates, Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, the Police Chiefs Association of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County, the County Detective’s Association of Pennsylvania and the Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police. He is currently the vice chairman of the Occupational Advisory Committee for the Eastern Montgomery County Center for Technology—Protective Services Program, past president of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 3, Bucks County, and a member of the Father Joseph A Gallen Council—Knights of Columbus. Chief Gallen is an active USA Hockey Certified Ice Hockey coach, coaching in the Delaware Valley Hockey League. He is also the Varsity Ice Hockey Coach and Hockey Director for Archbishop Wood High School in Warminster, Pa.
